Oliver G. Blakestad, 74, Dies at Lyle, Sunday, July 28

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Our Saviors Lutheran church at Lyle for Oliver G. Blakestad, father of Mrs. L. R. Falk and Mrs. Luther Tollefson of St. Ansgar. Mr. Blakestad died at his home in Lyle early Sunday morning following a lingering illness. The Rev. T. G. Torvik, pastor of the Lutheran church was in charge of the obsequies with burial in the Mona cemetery.

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Herbert Ralph Bjork will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. James Mikkelson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona, Iowa.

Mr. Bjork, 83, of 1205 Ninth St. N.W., a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Monday (May 12, 1997) at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, N.Y.

THE OBITUARY OF THEODORE ARNESON

Theodore Arneson was born in October, 1854, in Solor, Norway, and emigrated to America in 1882. He made his home with Mr. Martin Hanson south of here for three years.

In the year of 1885 he was united in marriage with Miss Lena Arneson. They settled on the Arneson farm, where he resided until his heath on January 23. He had always been in good health until about two weeks before his death but appeared as well as usual until the evening of January 23, when he was taken suddenly ill and died in a short time.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 27, 1985, at Mona Lutheran Church, for Mrs. Norris (Ardella) Anderson, 62, of Toeterville who died on Tuesday, June 25, 1985, at the St. Ansgar nursing home. The Rev. G. Grant officiated and burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona.

Ardella Grace (Kittleson) Anderson was born in St. Ansgar, on September 12, 1922. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in St. Ansgar. She attended grade school in St. Ansgar. She was later employed by the local produce company of St. Ansgar.

William J. “Bill” Koopal, 77, of rural Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at his home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1939, in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Cornelius and Jennie (Buss) Koopal. Bill grew up in Lyle and graduated from Lyle High School. He worked for Alton Wilder Farms, and then for the Freeborn County Co-op.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 7 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran church for Raymond C. Reuter, 53, who was killed in a car accident south of Rose Creek July 3. The Rev. Stanley Klemerud officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Raymond Chris Reuter, was born July 19, 1909 in Jone County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Lena (Decker) Reuter.

At the age of three he moved to Mona with his parents and at the age of nine they moved to a farm south of Austin.

Funeral services for Mrs. John Hanson, 69 were held Monday, December 16, at Six Mile Grove Lutheran church with Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating and interment will be in Oakwood, Austin.

She passed away Friday, December 13, at Comforcare Nursing Home in Austin where she had been since her release from Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage following a stroke.

Mr. and Mrs. Irving Weber, Mary, Patricia and Kathy of Lyle, James Weber of Austin and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ellingson of Osage attended the funeral of Irving's uncle, John Lenth, 86, last Monday at Ranfranz Funeral Home in Rochester.

Mr. Lenth a former Lyle resident farmed many years ago west of the Lyle Feed Mill. He had been in failing health for sometime and had a leg amputated several years ago.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Merrit Chris Olsen was born August 2, 1956 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, the son of Garmen and Agnes (Austinson) Olsen.

He attended kindergarten and first grade at the Lyle Public school, Sunday school at Six Mile Grove church and Bible school this summer.

Emma Sandvig, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jens Sandvig, was born October 29, 1888 in Otranto township, east of Mona in Mitchell county.

relatives of the death of a former resident, Harry Warrington, 82, of Loverna, Sask., Canada who died there May 13.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Warrington and was born near Osage and grew to manhood there. He left Mitchell county 43 years ago to make his home in Canada where he was engaged in farming until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Mary and twelve children, besides a number of nieces and nephews in the Osage, St. Ansgar and Lyle area.

Funeral services were held Monday in Clear Lake for a former Lyle man Henry T. Volstad, 67, who passed away Friday, September, 28, at the Iowa Soldiers Home, Marshalltown, Iowa where he had been for the past four years.

Services held at Wards Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Krebs pastor of the Congregational church officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military rites by Stafford Post 222 of the American Legion.

The 17-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Albin Slinde of Lyle died at Variety Heart Hospital in Minneapolis following heart surgery August 9. He had been admitted to the Memorial Hospital in Osage August 7, and was rushed by ambulance to Minneapolis for surgery.

Albin Slinde, Jr. was born at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital July 23. Funeral services were held at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, August 11 with the Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating with interment in Six Mile Grove Lutheran cemetery.

Lyle residents were grieved to hear of the sudden death of Miss Judith Beeman, age 21, Sunday at Minneapolis from unknown causes. Funeral services were held at St. Olaf Lutheran church, Austin, Minn. Tuesday August 7.

Her sister Karen Beeman, age, 23, is in St. Olaf Hospital Austin, Minn. following an automobile accident Saturday evening south of Blooming Prairie. She sustained a fractured pelvis in the accident. She was riding with her companion Ron Carothers, 22, in a foreign made car.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clifford Horgen, 75, were held at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Lyle Wednesday, August 1 with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating with interment at Rose Creek Enterprise cemetery north of Lyle.

Mrs. Horgen died July 29 from a lingering illness of several strokes and had been confined to St. Olaf Hospital in Austin the past five weeks.

Mrs. Adolph Jahr, 57, died on Saturday morning at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage from a lingering illness of five years. She had been a patient at the hospital for the past six weeks.

Funeral services were held Tuesday of this week at Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating.

Funeral services were held for a former Lyle resident, Thorman O. Lund, 66, at Redeemer Lutheran CHurch at Moorhead, Minnesota Friday, June 8 and also at Six Mile Grove Lutheran church east of Lyle Saturday, June 9 with interment in the church cemetery, with the Rev. Stanley Klemesrud officiating.

Thorman Lund, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole T. Lund was born in Lyle February 22, 1896. His parents operated a General Merchandise store there until 1918. He attended the Lyle high school and graduated there.

Norman Leslie Nelson, age 33, son of Nordahl and Lenore (Olson) Nelson, was born January 29, 1929 in Nevada township near Lyle, Minn.

He was baptized and confirmed in Six Mile Grove Lutheran church by the Rev. O. A. Langehough. He spent his life at the family farm east of Lyle, engaged in farming with his father.

He received his elementary education in District No. 11, also Lyle high school and the Minneapolis Society for the Blind.

Gilbert Nelson Funeral Held In Albert Lea

Funeral services for a former Lyle area farmer Gilbert T. Nelson, age, 75, were held at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Tuesday, February 20 with the Rev. Otto Wedul officiating. Interment was in Six Mile Grove Lutheran cemetery. A nephew, the Rev. Orin Thompson of Minneapolis also gave a short sermonette.

Mr. Nelson died of a heart attack Saturday, evening, February 17 shortly after eating his evening meal.
