Robert E. Gehring, 76

Robert Eugene Gehring, 76, of Austin, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at his home.

He was born Sept. 16, 1926, to Charles and Julian (Keller) Gehring in Iroquois, S.D. After attending school in Iroquois, S.D. he worked construction and on the railroad. Entering the US Army in 1945, he was stationed in Europe and Manilla serving in the Asiatic conflict before his discharge in 1946.

Elaine J. Webber-Fjerstad, 85, of Austin, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at the Adams Healthcare Center.

Elaine was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Austin, to Arnold and Alice (Christensen) Skogebo. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944. Elaine was united in marriage to Richard E. Webber, Sr. on Aug. 26, 1945. Richard died in 1988. In April 1998, Elaine was married to Harvey Fjerstad at the Northwest Church of Christ in Austin. Elaine was an Amway distributor until her failing health led to her retirement.

SUICIDE OF FRANK FARRELL

EVANS.

In Cedar City, April 1, 1900, of consumption, Frank A. Evans, aged nearly 27 years. He was born in Red Rock township, April 12, 1873 and has always lived in this county except two years at Albert Lea. He was married at Albert Lea, Aug. 27, 1894, to Miss Leda Ellingson. The widow and one child survive. Their babe, four months old, died Feb. 15. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. Cressey, were held at the residence yesterday afternoon. Interment at Cedar City.

--Mr. Joseph Epler, one of the first settlers in the town of Lyle, near Cedar City, departed this life Feb. 7, 1881, through effects of a cancer under the right jaw. Notwithstanding the tremendous state of the roads, a large concourse of people gathered at the residence and followed to the Cedar City school-house, to listen to the impressive funeral discourse, which was delivered by Rev A. Cressey of the city of Austin.

JACOB H. EPLER.

Jacob H. Epler, aged 69 years, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1911, of apoplexy at his home on west Mill street. He had his first stroke in July, 1903, and this was a fourth attack.

Elwell Rites Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Augusta Elwell were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the home at Cedar City. Rev. M. G. Shuman officiated. Interment was made in Cedar City cemetery.

The funeral of Albert Elwell was held at his parent's home Saturday afternoon, interment at Cedar City cemetery.

Ruby C. Ellis dies at 96 in Austin

AUSTIN -- Ruby C. Ellis, 96, of St. Mark's Lutheran Home, a lifelong Austin resident and formerly of of 1711 Fourth St. N.E., died Sunday (Nov. 12, 1995) at the nursing home.

Ruby C. Watkins was born Aug. 19, 1899, in Austin. On Oct. 20, 1918, she married Howard Ellis in Austin. Mrs. Ellis was a homemaker and a member of Crane Community Chapel.

Her husband and three brothers preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces and nephews.

--The infant child of Herb Ellis, of Cedar City, died Wednesday morning and was buried Thursday.

DURANT.

At her home in Mason City, July 7, 1901, Mrs. Elda, wife of Claude Durant, aged 23 years. She was born at Cedar City and lived in this vicinity until her marriage in March, 1900. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abe F. Watkins now of this city.

The remains were brought here for interment. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the residence of A. F. Watkins, Rev. F. L. Anderson officiating. Interment in Oakwood.

DICKERSON.

At her home on College street in this city, early Monday morning, Feb. 23, 1903, Mrs. Martha, widow of Abraham Dickerson, aged 71 years. Her maiden name was Bunn.

She was born in Ohio Jan. 22, 1832, and was married to Mr. Dickerson at Waterloo, Iowa, Nov. 2, 1857. They came at once to pioneer life in Mower county locating on their farm on section 28, town of Austin. Mr. Dickerson had some means and they did not know as much of pioneer hardships as many others but advantages at best were few and privations many.

Died at his home in this city, Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 1902, of typhoid fever; Abraham Dickerson, aged 79 years.

MRS. H. F. DEMING.

Mrs. Henry F. Deming died Wednesday afternoon, April 14, 1909, at her home southwest of Austin from grippe, after a brief illness, aged 83 years. She has been gradually failing for several years.

Henry F. Deming

One of the oldest residents of this county, Henry F. Deming, died Friday morning at 7 o'clock at his home a mile south of the Fair grounds. His life was finished, he passed his 91st year on December 25. He had a slight cold which developed into grip and the end came Friday. He was an honest citizen, a loved and respected neighbor.

Zackerias Aaron Cruz -- Austin

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Zackerias Aaron Cruz, 17, of Sioux Falls, S.D., grandson of Elaine Webber (Harvey) Fjerstad of Austin, will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Northwest Church of Christ in Austin, with the Rev. David DeFor officiating. Burial will be in Cedar City Cemetery in Austin.

OBITUARY.

Miss Alice M. Cressey, daughter of Rev. A. and Hannah Cressey, died of cerebretis, in Morristown, Rice county, Minn., on Thursday, 22d inst., in her 19th year. Her remains were brought here and her funeral attended at Cedar City by a large number of relatives and friends. The services were conducted by Rev. C. J. Hays, assisted by Rev. L. Hall.

CORNEVEAUX-- In this city, suddenly, of dropsy of the heart, Sunday morning, June 14, 1891, Mrs. Amy L. the beloved wife of Frank J. Corneveaux, aged 25 years.

The announcement of this sudden death comes like a shock to this community. A year has not yet elapsed since she stood a bride at the marriage altar. The hopes and plans of a happy home are so soon and so terribly blighted.

WM. COOK.

Wm. Cook, a former Mower County resident died at the Rochester hospital Saturday following an operation for appendicitis and gall stones.

When his wife lived, Mr. Cook farmed near Cedar City but he left Austin several years ago and has been in Washington four years and in Des Lacs, N. Dak. for three years. He came here in June for treatment and had been at Rochester on three visits previous to having his operation. He was 57 years old.

Kathy Jo Cochlin, 53, of Austin, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 12, 1949, in Austin, to Donald and Elaine (Bailey) Ball.

On Dec. 4, 1977, she married Timothy Cochlin in Austin.

Kathy Jo Ball was born Jan. 12, 1949, in Austin. She married Timothy Cochlin Dec. 4, 1977, in Austin.

--DEATH OF WELCOME CHANDLER.--
Wednesday, at his home, about six miles from Austin, Welcome Chandler died of paralysis. He was 74 years of age.

At her residence on Oakland avenue, Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 1906, of paralysis, Mrs. David L. Chandler, aged 64 years. She was stricken with paralysis April 2 and did not rally but steadily failed.
